Unser Fremdsprachenassistent stellt sich vor

Hi everybody! My name is Mr Buckley and I will soon be working as an English Language Assistant at the Maria-Wächtler-Gymnasium. I am very much looking forward to this new adventure in Germany and getting to meet you all.

I come from Southampton, England, which is a city, as the name suggests, right in the south of England. Perhaps you’ve heard of the football team? I’m afraid I don’t know much about football, so I won’t be able to discuss what’s happening in the Premier League! I also come from a family of teachers: both parents, two grandparents, two aunts, an uncle and two cousins all work or worked in education. Our “family business”, as we like to call it, is now expanding into Germany.

In July 2020, I graduated with a degree in Politics at the University of Sheffield, but I have always wanted to work abroad, hence why I recently moved to Germany. I did an Erasmus semester at both the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt in Austria and the Universität Regensburg in Bavaria, Germany.

As you can imagine, I am very interested in politics. I am especially interested in the European Union. I also really enjoy watching the news, meeting up with friends and travelling. I have visited nine different countries: the USA, Haiti, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Croatia. I hope to visit many more! Hopefully we’ll be able to discuss some of these things in our lessons together.

I will be working in both your English classes and in classes taught in English such as Geography and Politics, from the 1st October 2020. I look forward to meeting you all soon!

Mr Buckley
